Wayne E. Birr, 83 died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at an area nursing home. He was born Sept. 3, 1924 to the late Edward and Hazel Birr in Morgan, Oconto County. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On May 3, 1952 he married Judy Barszcz at Krakow. She preceded him in death on March 26, 1998. Wayne served in the trucking industry for 32 years. He was employed by Green Bay Flour and Feed Inc., Bulk Transport Co. and Klemm Tank Lines. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish for 44 years where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and the choir; and was currently a member of St. Bernard Parish. Wayne volunteered for the Brown County Commission on Aging, delivering meals to the homebound for 19 years. Wayne also delivered food baskets; helped ring bells at Christmas time for the Salvation Army; and also served as a Red Cross volunteer. Survivors include his children: Gary (Chris) Birr, Green Bay; Mary Jane (Bruce) Willems, DePere; John (special friend Rita Piantek) Birr, Appleton; five grandchildren: Laura (Tom) Uutala, Avon, OH; Tom (Stacy) Birr, DePere; Dustin Willems, U.W. Madison; Derek and Kyla Willems, DePere; one great grandson, Sam Uutala and a second great grandson due in September. He is also survived by a great friend, Mary Treichel, Green Bay and her family; other relatives and many friends. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Marlyn Hickok, Lee Birr, Glenn Birr, Margaret Gillis and Berwyn Walske Friends may call on Wednesday, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside Lane from 3:00-6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial 6:30 p.m. with Rev. Dave Pleier officiating. Entombment in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Proko-Wall Funeral Home is assisting the family.
