Born in Green Bay, WI on Jul 27, 1919

Died on Jun 30, 2019 and resided in Green Bay, WI

Donald Victor Johnson passed away after a brief illness, Sunday, June 30, just 27 days short of his 100th Birthday.

Donald was born July 27, 1919, in Green Bay to Victor and Blanche (Charbeneau) Johnson.  He attended Green Bay East High School, graduating in 1937.  Donald enlisted with the Army in 1942 and as part of the infantry, fought in WWII.  He was awarded with both a Purple Heart and Good Conduct medals.

Upon discharge from the Army in 1945, Donald began working as a bookkeeper for Brebner Machinery from where he subsequently retired.  He had a love for new cars and thrived on the hunt for a new one every couple years.  That love of cars introduced him to the world of NASCAR racing and he was an avid fan up until his passing.

Donald is survived by nieces and nephews, Susan (Bob) Butrymowicz and Peter (Kassie) Van Remortel of Green Bay, Barbara (Dan) Aldi and Keith (Linda) Butler of Milwaukee.  He is further survived by great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his siblings, Evan (June) Johnson, Fern (George) Van Remortel, June (Melvin) Wilde and Joyce (Beverly) Butler.

Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., will be handling the arrangements which will be held later this month with a Celebration of his Life “Cheers to 100 Years”.  Donald’s goal for the last 10 years was to live to 100 years old and have a big party.  He was counting the days until this big event and family and friends have all agreed he has earned the celebration.  His visitation and service, in conjunction with a birthday party to send him Heaven bound, will be held on his Birthday that he was so looking forward to.  Visitation will start at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 27th, with a short service at 2:00 p.m.

The family would like to thank the care givers from Home Instead for their outstanding care through the last 7 years as well as the staffs at The Courtyard Bellevue and Heartland Hospice during his short stay with them.  Special thanks to great niece, Korre (Butrymowicz) Reynen for her unwavering dedication to keeping him happy and entertained with her frequent visits, the jokes they shared, watching the Brewers and, of course, NASCAR races.  The sweets she brought him didn’t hurt either as everyone knew how much Donald liked his sweets.

A memorial fund has been established to benefit Heartland Hospice.
