Patricia “Pat” Basten

Patricia “Pat” A. Basten, 77, Green Bay, passed away on Wednesday evening, December 4, 2019 at home surrounded by her family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  She was born on March 7, 1942 in Green Bay to the late Clarence and Mabel (Vander Kelen) Greatens.  On May 13, 1961 she married her high school sweetheart Tom Basten at Holy Martyrs of Gorcum Catholic Church and together they raised five children.  Pat worked as a chef for many years and was employed by T ‘n T Supperclub and Paul’s Carriage Inn.  She later worked in retail at Osco Drug.  She liked crafts and spending time with her family and grandchildren.  She enjoyed luncheons with the Preble girls and getting together with the Osco girls.  She also liked to play cards with her close friends.

She is survived by her loving husband, Tom; children, Todd (Lori) Basten, Tim (Nancy) Basten, Dale (Kim) Basten, Dean (Kim) Basten and Dawn (Jason) Goddard; 17 grandchildren, Brittany (Jesse) Moffatt, Brandon (Nicole), Tyler (Kelsie), Travis (special friend, Maeve), Troy, Joshua (Leah), Caleb, Elizabeth, Olivia, Josiah, Gabriella, Zach (Sarah), Tanner, Mackenzie (Mark) O’Connell, Bennett Goddard, Brady Goddard and Andersen Goddard; two foster grandchildren, Joel Harris and Kelvin Ngutor Bula, of Nigeria; great grandchildren, Colten and Finley Moffatt, Stella Basten and Bronson Basten; sisters-in-law, Karen Greatens, Loret O’Boyle and Pat (Pete) Mathu; very special aunt, Emily Rueckl; her favorite granddog, Georgie; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her grandson, Jeremy Basten; brother, Bob Greatens; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Ethel Basten; and brother-in-law, Bill O’Boyle.

Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., on Monday, December 9, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Parish wake service 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside Ln., from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.  Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Rev. Pat will be eternally grateful to her children who prepared meals for her and Tom during treatments and cared for her in her final days.

The family would like to thank Dr. Dhimant Patel, who was her oncologist, for his friendship and compassion.  Also to Aurora at Home Hospice, especially Jessica, Carri and Stephanie for all of the special care they gave to Pat.
