Tadeusz “Ted” Wojtowicz, 88, was united with God on Monday, July 6, 2020.  He was born in Borynicze, Poland, on August 8, 1931, to Andrzej and Anastazja (Wozna) Wojtowicz.  When World War II broke out in 1939, Ted, his siblings and his parents were taken by the Soviet government to a labor camp in Siberia.  Later, his father joined a Polish division of the British Army while the family transferred to a refugee camp near Kolhapur, India, until the war ended in 1945. England opened its door to World War II refugees, and Ted and his family transferred there in 1947.  In 1950, the family set sail for New York City and eventually settled in Chicago.

In 1959, Ted married Eleanor DeJulius, the love of his life.  She preceded him in death on December 22, 1973.

Ted served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1952–1956 and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant.  After Ted’s Air Force career, he worked for Burlington Northern and Milwaukee Railroad as a locomotive engineer.  Ted was an avid reader, especially books on World War II, but he also enjoyed reading about paranormal activity.  Before his dementia commenced, he took an interest in weapons and target practice, playing chess and checkers, cribbage and poker, as well as a passion for cooking.

Ted is survived by three children, Edward, Terese Thomas (Dave) and Robert (Jolanda); four grandchildren, Marcus (Bree), Matthew, Ian, and Graeme along with two great-grandsons, many nieces and nephews.

Ted was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jan and Boleslaw and a sister Jadwiga.

Graveside Services will be held at 3:30 pm Friday, July 17, at St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Wrightstown with Rev. Bob Kabat officiating.  Military Honors to follow the prayers. The family is not requiring masks, but does ask that social distancing be observed.
