David Gerstner

David Brian Gerstner, 65, Green Bay resident, passed away at home after a five-month battle with a rare kidney cancer. He was born December 5, 1954, in Green Bay to the late Alvin and Hazel (Greiling) Gerstner and was the youngest of four children. David was a graduate of SS Peter and Paul Grade School and a 1973 graduate of Preble High School. David continued his education at the UW Whitewater campus earning a degree in Accounting and his CPA certificate.

 He was a partner at a public accounting firm until January of 2008 when he changed careers and became President and CEO of De Pere Cabinet, Inc. until his recent health would not allow him to continue.

 In 2010, David married his great love, Maryanne Egan, at their home on the shore of Lake Michigan. His kind heart and selfless predisposition touched the lives of all who knew him. His wit and sense of humor were unmatched. David loved being a father and grandfather and spending time with “The Beasters.” He was always passionate about his work and using his talents to help others. An avid boater, golfer, and sports fanatic, he loved listening to Brewers games on the radio, attending Packer games and always looked forward to his Canadian fishing trip with his friends and his brother Jeff. David and Maryanne never missed a summer Saturday on the Sea Ray and cherished time with family and friends. David’s faith was strong, and he lived it. His faith was an example for others to follow. His concern for his community was shown in his active volunteerism. He was a long-standing member of the Board of Directors at the National Railroad Museum serving as their treasurer. David also participated with the Humane Society and Family Services among numerous other organizations.

 He is survived by his wife, Maryanne; daughters, Margaret (Sean) Vinsel, Farmington MN, and Anna (Kevin) Makovsky, Pittsfield; four grandchildren, Calvin and Henry Makovsky, Vale and Margot Vinsel, “The 4 Beasters”; his brother, Jeff (Dian) Gerstner, The Villages FL; two sisters, Susan (Jerry) Stodola, Minocqua and  Linda (Randy) Gezella, Maple Grove MN; Gerstner nieces and nephews: Joel (Ora) Gerstner; Geri Lynn Gerstner; Greg Gerstner; Melanie (Sam) Taylor; Jessie (Dean) Johnson; Jennifer (Jason) Bushmaker and Brian (Nancy) Gezella; an Aunt, Mae Nolan; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Mary Egan; sisters-in-law, Gail (Terry) Stuckart; Patricia Stuckart, Kathleen Egan (Dan Novak); brother-in-law, Dan (Joy) Egan; and  close friends and business associates Bob Walczyk Jr. and Nancy Burkard and family.

 He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Suzanne Gerstner, nephew, Steven Gerstner and brother-in-law, Donald Stuckart.

 Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. from 4:00-8:00 pm Thursday, July 23, with a parish wake service at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Friday at SS Edward and Isidore Catholic Church, 3667 Flintville Rd, Suamico, from 9:30 -10:45 am. Funeral Mass 11:00 am Friday at the church with Rev.
