June R. Bourain, 79, passed away surrounded by her loving family on February 5, 2021.  She was born June 1, 1941, to Julius and Vivian (Herlache) Vandenhouten.  June graduated from Preble High School with the Class of 1959.  On June 25, 1960, she married Donald J. Bourain at Our Saviour Lutheran Church.  The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past year.  June and Don enjoyed traveling throughout the country with their friends and family.  June also enjoyed tending to her flowers and gardens with help from her husband.

An artist by nature, June loved sharing her talents with friends and family.  Whether it be painting, decorating, or making flower arrangements, she brightened homes, weddings, and celebrations with her gorgeous creations.  She adored shopping for treasures with her daughters.  June left the world a more beautiful place.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tami and Dennis Sargent and Traci and Brad Ponkratz; three grandchildren, Cody (Michelle) Sargent, Tara (Zack) Molid and Hunter Ponkratz; a step-grandchild, Jasmin Ponkratz; two great-grandchildren, Allie and Aaron Sargent; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Patricia (Marvin) Hoffmann.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor David Hatch officiating.  Entombment will be in Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff at St. Vincent Hospital, especially those in the Critical Care Unit.

Your mother is always with you.  She’s the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street, she’s the smell of certain foods you remember, flowers you pick and perfume that she wore.  She’s the cool hand on your brow when you’re not feeling well; she’s your breath in the air on a cold winter’s day, the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep.  Your mother lives inside your laughter, she’s crystallized in every tear drop.  She’s your first love, your first friend and nothing on earth can separate you.
