Anthony J. “Tony” Gierczak

Anthony James “Tony” Gierczak, 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, in the care of his daughter and son at the Meng Unity Residence.  He was born May 10, 1926, in Green Bay to the late Antone and Lucille (Murawski) Gierczak.  After graduating high school, Tony served his country during World War II stationed in Germany.  Tony was employed for over 40 years at Proctor & Gamble Papermill.  On July 4, 1958, he married Elsie (Petasek) Polasik at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, a widow with two young children.  The couple soon added a son to complete the family.  Elsie preceded him in death November 18, 2018. 

Tony enjoyed watching the Packers, listening to Danny O’Donnell, but most of all, loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching their sporting events and endeavors.  He adored his furry friends, Granger, Kasper, Max, Riley, Bear and Louie.  Tony was a loving and caring person who would do anything for anyone. 

He is survived by his children, Judy Ann (fiancé, Bruce Zellner) Oettinger and Christopher (Wendy) Gierczak; a daughter-in-law, Sue Polasik; grandchildren, Tony (Sara) Oettinger, Karlee and Kaycee Gierczak; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Nathan and Tessa Sue Oettinger; godchildren, Danny Gierczak, Paul Roullett, Paulette Zimonick and Lori Zuelke;  brother, Dominic (Rose) Gierczak, sisters, Dorothy  Glinski and Tess Velasco; sisters-in-law, Betty Gierczak, Shirley Anderson, Ethel Helgerson, Clara Petasek , Carol Petasek and Clarice Petasek; a brother-in-law, Clarence Petasek; many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends who all called him Uncle Tony.

In addition to his wife and parents, Tony was preceded in death by a son, Jim Polasik; a son-in-law, Curt Oettinger; a goddaughter, Deanna Plog; his twin sister, Margaret Gierczak; a sister, Rose (Marvin) Lemerond; brothers, Cliff (Eve), Ray, George (Evelyn), Tom (Gerry), and Joe (Beatrice) Gierczak; sisters-in-law, Carol Gierczak; Ceil (Carl) Matzke, Joyce Petasek; brothers-in-law, Walter Glinski, Henry Velasco, Jake (Tiny), Norbert, Alvin (Pat), Dick (Delores), Bob, Leonard (Faye), Peter, Frank (Rosemary) and Dave (Irene) Petasek, Sheldon Anderson and Tom Helgerson.   

Because of COVID restrictions, a private family service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.  Tony will be buried from his parish, St. Mary of the Angels, and laid to rest in Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.  Proko-Wall Funeral Home is assisting the family.  To send online condolences visit www.prokowall.com

Tony’s family extends a special thank you to the staff at Unity Hospice, especially his nurse Christi, his social worker Kristen, his CNA Nancy and Meng Residence staff Ashley, Kelsey, Kristen, Mary, Lori, Sue, Ann, Brenda, Phillip and many more.  Thank you also to Jason Johnson and the crew from RRD for the assistance while Dad was still in the house.
