Aloys H. “Al” Mathu, 82, Pembine, formerly of Denmark, passed away on Sunday morning, March 28, 2021.  He was born in the town of Humboldt on July 15, 1938, to the late Peter and Evelyn (Tasquin) Mathu.  Al was a graduate of Luxemburg High School, class of 1956.  On November 12, 1960, he married Rita Benz at St. Mary’s Parish in Luxemburg, WI.  Al ran Mathu’s Appliance & Power until 1999, when his son, Paul, took over.  He was an avid golfer making 7 hole in ones the last one coming days before his 76th birthday.  Al and Rita spent many days golfing with friends in Denmark and then after retirement with friends in Pembine & Florida.  Al had a great sense of humor always quick with a joke or funny comment.  He loved spending time with his family.  Grandchildren could always expect a water fight with grandpa, being allowed to wear a permanent path in the lawn with the golf cart, going golfing with grandpa and of course lots of pop!

Al didn’t like to say goodbye so he always said “Thanks for Coming”.  So, it isn’t goodbye dad, instead it is “Thanks for a Lifetime of wonderful memories”.

Al is standing on the back of the 18th green looking back over the course saying “that was one heck of a round!”  All of his family and friends can sign and attest to that scorecard.

There are no words to express the gratitude for the caregiving our mother Rita and sister Karen provided our dad.  Their daily caregiving allowed him to remain at home with Rita, the love of his life.

Al will be deeply missed by his wife, Rita; children, Colette (Mike) Christoph, Paul (Pam) Mathu, Karen (Dave) Crass and Kathy (Dan) Heinz; grandchildren, Bruce (Heather) Christoph, Kim Christoph (fiancé, Scott), Ryan Christoph, Kristie (Jackson) Romanowski, Rachel Mathu, Joe Mathu (fiancé, Lizzy), Mitchell Crass (special friend, Melissa), Savanna Crass (special friend, Vinnie), Jeff (Torie) Heinz and Elizabeth Heinz; great grandchildren, Devyn, Kailee, Jeremy, Jacob, Addison, Joe, Alivia, Elliana and Jameson; siblings, Henrietta Halada, Peter (Pat) Mathu, Joanne Zellner (special friend, Dell), Colette (Jerry) Seidl, Sharon (Neil) Du Jardin, Jim (Mary) Mathu, Jean Mathu (special friend, Michelle), Mary Ann (John) Leroy, Pat (Bernard) Pigeon and Donna (Francis) Paque; sister-in-law, Phyllis Benz; brother-in-law, Bernie Jossart; and many other family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Al is preceded in death by his stepmother, Josephine Mathu; parents-in-law, Joseph and Anna Benz; sisters-in-law, Jean Jossart and Audrey Benz; and brothers-in-law, Ronald Benz and Jake Halada.

Visitation will be at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., from 5:00 p.m. until 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, 2021, with the Funeral Service at 8:00 p.m.  Another celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.Prokowall.com.

The family would like to thank the special people at Unity Hospice for their compassion and support, especially Lance, Molly and Nancy.

In lieu of flowers and other expressions of sympathy, a Memorial Fund has been established in Al’s name to contribute to the Denmark Fire Department where he once served as a volunteer fireman, the Pembine/Dunbar/Beecher Rescue Squad and the Ronald McDonald House.
