Genevieve R. Angerer

Born in Town of Morrison, Wisconsin on Jul 02, 1925

Died on Jun 02, 2021 and resided in Green Bay, Wisconsin

Genevieve “Gen” Ruth Angerer, 95, of Green Bay, passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2021. Gen was born on July 2, 1925, in the Township of Morrison, Wisconsin, to the late Joseph and Clara (Staats) Angerer. She was a graduate of Green Bay East High.

Gen was a strong, independent person who loved her hometown of Green Bay. Even though she moved residences several times throughout her life, she made it a point to always remain within the Green Bay city limits. As a lifetime subscriber to the Green Bay Press Gazette, she read every single word of the paper every single day.  She was a staunch fan of the Green Bay Packers and would regularly cut out newspaper articles about the Packers and the city to send to her out of town family. Her brother-in-law, John Thorse, always looked forward to her mailings as she kept him up-to-date with all the important happenings in her beloved city of Green Bay.

Gen was a career-minded woman. During her lifetime, she did office work for Bellin Hospital and Baird Real Estate Agency. The majority of her work (over 30 years) was spent with the State of Wisconsin Corrections Department. Her work was her hobby, and she appreciated the opportunity of helping others. As Gen did not drive a car, she always walked or rode a bike to work. In the late 1980’s, however, she traded in her bike for a motorbike, helmet and leather jacket! She always appreciated efficiency!

In her younger years, Gen loved to travel. Panama was one of her favorite trips when she accompanied her sister and family on a drive from the canal to the U.S.  Of course, shopping for many mementos along the way have been cherished and always talked about with visitors to her home.

Family was very important to Gen and she honored those relationships in many ways. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting and embroidery. Although she made pillows, tablecloths, napkins and bedspreads, her favorite hobby was creating Christmas cards with embroidered designs on them. Each Christmas, she would send a card with an embroidered letter of the alphabet to each family and, after 13 years, the cards spelled, “Happy Holidays!” She continued with beautiful cards for another 12 years. Gen treasured the many visits when family members came to see her. She loved having her picture taken with her loved ones and, of course, she insisted on taking them on a tour of the city and on to the Packer Stadium! Including the original at East High School.

Gen was a woman who had a great work ethic, exuded positivity, appreciated all the experiences of her life and was filled with love for others. She will be greatly missed in the lives of so many. She was a tremendous blessing to her brother, sisters, nephews, and nieces as well as to her friends and neighbors.

Gen will be sadly missed by her nephews and nieces, Jim (Mary) Angerer, Doug (Susan) Angerer, Sharon (Joe) Peterson, Elizabeth (Roy) Vega, Rebecca (Robert) Pope, John Jr. Thorse and his wife Jeanne Alexander, David (Lori) Thorse, and Daniel (Sheila) Thorse; nephew-in-law, Carey Suter; brother-in-law, John Thorse and a sister-in-law, Adeline Angerer. Gen is further survived by her great nieces and nephews and her great great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Don Angerer, two sisters, Dolores (Virgil) Ganz and Grace Thorse; niece, Kathy Suter and nephew, Gregory Thorse.
