Mary Weideman

Mary Ann Weideman, 73, Green Bay resident, passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2022, at a local hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. She was fondly supported through this journey by family, many friends and neighbors. Mary was born on December 20, 1948, in Iowa Falls, Iowa to the late Harold and Shirley (Leonard) Weideman.

 She grew up on a farm in central Iowa and moved to Iowa Falls when she was 12. Mary graduated from Iowa Falls High School and proceeded to enroll in Ellsworth Junior College, transferring to UNI in Cedar Falls Iowa where she completed her BS in Education. She moved to Green Bay following school where she resided most of her life. Mary started her 35 year career in the Green Bay Public School System at Whitney School moving to Anne Sullivan for most of her career and finally retiring from Red Smith School. While teaching she was an active member of the GBEA.

 Through the years Mary taught grades four through six. Following retirement, she continued teaching as a substitute and spent many hours volunteering. Mary also completed all of her course studies to receive her master’s in education from Leslie College, all while teaching her classes every day. She held a very active part in the “Operettas” as a seamstress, prop creator and co-director who loved to help the students excel in theater. Mary was a good student all her life as she was active in LIR classes for many years.

 Mary was a person who flowed with creativity through scrapbooking and personalized cards, painting ceramics and doing crafts. She also had a green thumb and loved to garden. She took great pride in her yard tending to the numerous varieties of Hosta’s that adorned the nooks and crannies throughout. Mary was an active bowler, bowling in two leagues.

 Although she had no children of her own, she touched the lives of many hundreds of children throughout the years.

 Mary is survived by a sister, Andrea Custer, Platteville, WI and a brother, Douglas Weideman, Iowa Falls, IA; six nieces and nephews and 7 great nieces and nephews.

 She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Susan Weideman.

 Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. on Saturday, February 5, 2022, from 10:00 -11:30 am. Memorial Service 11:30 am at the funeral home with Rev. David Hatch officiating. Burial will take place in North Lawn Cemetery, Iowa Falls, IA. In lieu of floral expressions a memorial fund has been established for an educational scholarship.  Mary’s family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of St. Vincent’s 9th floor for taking such good care of her for the last four months. They would also like to thank Canterbury Tails Pet Resort for assisting in the care of her two dogs over the last four months as well. It was a comfort knowing they were so well taken care of.
