Daniel Charles Cornell, 73, died peacefully in his home on Thursday, March 24th, 2022. Dan was born in Green Bay, WI on December 18th, 1948, to Cyril and Marie (Charles) Cornell. The youngest of six children, Dan was always a fun-loving, easygoing guy who enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and football. A well-rounded man, Dan was a musician as well and played the drums in a polka band with his brothers as a teen and in a rock and roll band as a young adult. Dan remained active to the end, enjoying bowling, golfing, and racquetball in his adult years.
Dan graduated from Premontre High School in 1967. He worked in maintenance at Green Bay Packaging, several years as the Union President, and retired after 43 years. His maintenance expertise carried into all areas of his life, from installing flooring to building a sandbox to fixing just about anything in the home.
Dan’s daughter, Tricia, was born in 1973. On August 15th, 1987, Dan married Mary Ann (Renaud) and they celebrated 34 years of marriage. Mary Ann had two children, Dana and Aaron, which he loved as his own children. Dan’s true joys in life came from caring for and spending time with his family. He loved going on biking trips with Mary Ann and even vacationed in Alaska and Europe. Dan and Mary Ann also took ballroom dancing lessons for 17 years. With his grandchildren, he enjoyed playing cards and ping pong and took great pleasure in watching their various extracurricular activities. Dan was humble, giving and had a selfless spirit that was a blessing to all who knew him.
Dan is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; children Tricia (Bill) Schmidt, Dana (Clint) Spejcher, Aaron Laurant; grandchildren, Brandon, Bryana, Marcus, Makayla, Mason, Adrian, Willow, Rosemary; sisters and brothers, Marianne Cornell, Darrell (Bonnie) Cornell, Karen (Reggie) Gillaume, Donne (Marsha) Cornell, Marlene Hagen; sisters-in-law Barb Renaud, Kathy (Chuck) Heffernan; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Cyril and Marie Cornell; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and June (LaTourelle) Renaud; brothers-in-law, Don Hagen, Bill Renaud; niece, Julie (Cornell) Treml and nephew, Dan Davister.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. Friday, April 1st at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2597 Glendale Ave. in Howard. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the church with Rev. Jim Lucas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
