David J. Nitka, 63, died Friday, April 10, 2020.  He was born May 10, 1956, on Mother’s Day, in Green Bay to Henry D. “Hank” and Lorraine B. (Servais) Nitka. 

David was a graduate of South Kitsap High School, Class of 1975.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1974 to 1977 and was stationed in San Diego, CA, and on board the U.S.S. Constellation.  David worked in maintenance at Meg Tec Systems for thirty-eight years until his retirement.  David loved spending time with his grandkids, attending his grandkids sports events, cutting wood, grilling, grocery shopping, cooking, taking a drive, and enjoying his zero-turn lawn mower.  He had a special love for pool parties and birthday parties.

David is survived by his wife; Terry; his children, Shannon (Joash) Smits, Green Bay, John (JJ) Nitka, Suamico, Carl (Beth) Thyes, De Pere, Jim (Jenna) Thyes, Denmark; his grandchildren, Brianna Smits, Bella Smits, Taylor Thyes, Riley Thyes, Ricky Thyes, Aubrey Thyes, Whitney Thyes, Mariah Thyes; his brothers and sister, James (Shirley) Nitka, Randy (Mary) Nitka, Donna Gust; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws, Donny (Katie) Brosig, David (George) Brosig, John (Carrie) Brosig, Lynn (Randy) Englebert, Cheryl (Tom) Gerrits, Jackie (Glen) Van De Hei, Ann Brosig, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Chad Smits; his parents, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard (Rosemary) Brosig; a brother, Joe (Bev) Nitka; brothers-in-law, Rick Brosig, and Don Gust.
