Dolores Martin

Dolores “Dolly” R. Martin, 73, Green Bay, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023, at home surrounded by loved ones.  She was born on December 4, 1949, in Dardenne, Missouri to the late Alfred and Dolores (Sommer) Salfen.  The day after Dolly was born, her mother Dolores unexpectedly passed away and Alfred then married Jane Smythe in 1951 and together they raised Dolly.  She graduated from Bowling Green High School in Bowling Green, MO.  Dolly then attended St. Mary’s College in O’Fallon, MO and graduated from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.  Later on, she obtained her Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.  On August 15, 1970, she married Michael Martin at St. Claire Catholic Church in Ellisville, MO.  Dolly worked as an elementary school teacher in Webster Groves, MO, a school librarian at St. Philips Parish in Green Bay and a reading, recovery and literacy coach for the Green Bay Public School System.  Dolly was an active member at Prince of Peace Catholic Church and volunteered with the Helping Hands Committee as the head of the sewing ministry that made garments for children in Haiti.  She was also a member of the Brown County Community Women’s Club, various book clubs over the years and the rosary prayer group. Dolly was an avid reader, enjoyed home decorating and scrapbooking.  She enjoyed sewing, gardening, golfing, and spending time with family.  Dolly was a also Packers and baseball fan.

She is survived by her husband, Michael; children, Katherine (Robert) Weink, Matthew Martin and Ian Martin; grandchildren, Emma, Isabelle, Max, Samuel and Annie Weink; brother, Timothy Salfen; sisters, Sheila (Douglas) Storts, Noreen (Bruce) McKay and Bridget (Jack) Price; our good friend and Mike’s step brother, Gary Linder; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Louis and Bernadine (Hemmer) Salfen, Henry and Elisabeth (Rothermich) Sommer and James and Helen (Droney) Smythe

Visitation will be held at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Parish wake service 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 3425 Willow Rd., from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.  Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Very Rev. Dennis Ryan officiating.  Burial will take place at Holy Martyrs Cemetery.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.prokowall.com.
