Donald Bourain

Donald J. Bourain, 86, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023, at a local care facility. He was born in Casco on March 10, 1937, to the late Raymond and Mildred (Dupont) Bourain. Don graduated from Algoma High School with the class of 1956. Following High School, Don joined the US Army and served from July 1956 until his honorable discharge in July of 1958. On June 25, 1960, he married June Vandenhouten at Our Saviour Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death on February 5, 2021. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2020. Don was employed at Fort Howard paper Company for over 40 years, retiring in 1999. He was also a member of the Key Club at Fort Howard and a longtime member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church.

Don and June enjoyed traveling throughout the country with their friends and family.  Don’s favorite past time was working in his yard. He and June tended to their flower gardens and Don loved to cut the grass. He had an artistic streak in him and enjoyed reading a good book. Don was a Packer fan and looked forward to decorating his yard for Halloween. He was a regular visitor to Algoma where he caught up with family and friends. His pride and joy were truly his family, especially spending time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tami and Dennis Sargent and Traci and Brad Ponkratz; three grandchildren, Cody (Michelle) Sargent, Tara (Zack) Molid and Hunter Ponkratz; a step-grandchild, Jasmin Ponkratz; three great-grandchildren, Allie and Aaron Sargent and Harper Molid; two sisters, Barbara (Wally) Krueger and Sharon Corbiser; one brother, Richard (Marcia) Bourain; two half-brothers, Orvis (Viola) Resler Jr. and Melvin (Jean) Resler; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Bourain; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol (Frank) Helebrant; brother, Kermit Bourain and sister-in-law, Patricia (Marvin) Hoffmann.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 16, at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St.  Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor David Hatch officiating.  Entombment will be in Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.  To send online condolences visit www.prokowall.com.
