Donna M. Winiecki, 91, Green Bay resident, died Sunday, October 8, 2023, at a local care facility. She was born March 22, 1932, in Green Bay to the late George and Lavina (Bildings) Smits. Donna married Arthur “Archie” Winiecki on February 7, 1975, at Old St. Joseph Catholic Church in De Pere. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2020.
Donna was a teacher at Parkview Middle School in Ashwaubenon for seven years. She and Archie were active members of the Green Bay Botanical Gardens, Friends of the library and was a member of St. Bernard Parish. Donna and Archie enjoyed traveling in their retirement. They went to Hawaii, Alaska and many places in Europe. She was also the family genealogist, keeping track of the family trees in the Smits and Winiecki families.
She is survived by three special nephews and their spouses: Greg (Cindy) Winiecki; Ken (Karen) Francois and Ted (Mary) Francois; a special great nephew, Archie and great niece, Karissa and well as numerous other nieces and nephews.
Donna was preceded in death by five brothers: Mathias and Martin Smits; Gordy (Audrey) Smits; Carl (Eleanore) Smits and George Smits Jr.; three sisters: Ruth Smits; Florence (Donald) Kowaleski and Rosemary (Robert) Francois.
Friends may call at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside Lane, on Monday, October 16, from 10:00 am until time of Mass. Memorial Mass 11:00 am Monday at the church with Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Burial in the Allouez Cemetery. In lieu of floral expressions a memorial fund has been established in Donna’s name.
