Doris Tilkens

Doris M. Tilkens, 87, Green Bay, formerly of New Franken, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, March 4, 2023.  She was born on January 12, 1936, in Green Bay to the late Fred and Marie (Smits) Thyes.  On May 12, 1956, she married John Tilkens at St. Kilian Catholic Church in New Franken.  He preceded her in death on June 25, 2013.  Doris worked as a certified nursing assistant for Brown County Mental Health Center for many years.  She also drove school bus for Jelco (now First Student) and worked as a teacher’s aide at Wequiock Elementary School.  She enjoyed puzzling, crafting, camping and square dancing.  Her ultimate joy was spending time with her family.  Doris was very selfless and always put family and friends before herself.

She is survived by her children, Tom (Karen) Tilkens, Ann Basten, Mary (Thomas) Polcin, Judy (Brian) Prahl and Lori Tilkens-Rentmeester; two granddaughters, Melissa Basten and Madi Rentmeester; siblings, Sally Jacobs and Shirley (James) Daoust; sister-in-law, Bette Potts; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norbert and Irma Tilkens; brothers and sisters-in-law, James (Lois) Thyes and Fred (Marilyn) Thyes, Jr.; brothers-in-law, James Jacobs and Jerry Potts.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Parish wake service 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside Ln., from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.  Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church with Rev. Mark Vander Steeg officiating.  Burial with take place in the St. Kilian Church Cemetery.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.prokowall.com.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund will be established.
