Dorothea M. Umentum, 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at McCormick assisted living in Allouez where she had resided the past four years. Dorothea was born on July 4, 1927, in Kunesh Wisconsin to the late Henry and Margaret (Eisch) Larscheid. Dorothea graduated at the age of 16 from Pulaski High School and then from the Marinette County Normal Teaching School in 1946. She began teaching in a one room schoolhouse in Kunesh from 1946 until her marriage to Matthew Dodich in 1953. She was preceded in death by Matthew Dodich in 1955. Dorothea then married Melvin J. Umentum in 1958. Melvin preceded her in death in 2009.
Dorothea is survived by her five children: Mary (Tom) Heintzkill; Cathy (Bill) Day; Deacon Paul (Theresa) Umentum; Sue (Jim) Ritchay and Matthew (Judy) Umentum. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; her sisters: Lolly Sorenson; Anna Mae Szymanski and Janice Nackers; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Merle Larscheid and Clayton Larscheid.
Family and friends at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. on Monday, September 25, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. There will be a Rosary service at 7:00 pm to close the evening led by her son, Deacon Paul. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, September 26, at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop in Allouez from 10:00 -10:45 am. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday at the Church with Rev. Thomas Reynebeau presiding. Burial in the Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
