Dorothy Mae (Cywinski) Chekouras peacefully passed to eternal life on Saturday morning, December 4, 2021, the day after her 94th birthday.  The daughter of the late Charles and Catherine (Szczech) Cywinski of Glenmore, WI, she was born on December 3, 1927, in Green Bay, WI.  She attended Maple View Elementary School.  At the young age of 13, Dorothy “Dot” left the Glenmore family farm to assist another family in De Pere, WI.  This enabled her to obtain her high school diploma from East De Pere High School – class of 1945.  When she left De Pere and moved to Green Bay, she attended the local Vocational Business School.  As a skillful typist, she worked in the office at VanEss Concrete in Green Bay for a brief period of time.

She met her one and only future husband, Raymond T. Chekouras, at a local square dance.  On October 17, 1953, they were married at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay.

After several years of being a supportive, loving wife and mother of 5 children, she re-entered the work force as a bookkeeper at Schroeder’s Flowers in Green Bay for almost 40 years.

Some of her favorite interests and activities included jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku, word searches, Scrabble, knitting, quilting, cooking and baking, square dancing, watching televised musicals and the Lawrence Welk show.  She also enjoyed the music of many artists including Herb Alpert and Tom Jones.  The train at Bay Beach Park was her favorite ride.  She cheered on the Green Bay Packers and attended many functions of the Red Hat Society and Memory Cafe.

Dorothy was a strong woman of faith who lived a simple life, yet passed on exemplary traits to her children.

Survivors include her five children: Barbara Brown, Linda (Robert) McBride, Ronald Chekouras, Donna (Jon) Hansen, Nancy (Brian) Deaner; seven grandchildren: Mindy (Devon), Lisa (Stephen), Carissa, Eric (Christina), Crystal (Jeff), Brandon, Sarah; five great-grandchildren: Garrett, Benjamin, Amy, Adelyn, Melody; siblings: Richard Cywinski, Edna (Tom) Robak, Robert (Judith) Cywinski; sister-in-law: Rose Marie Chmura as well as many nieces and nephews.
