Edwin Monfils

Edwin F. Monfils, 93, a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023.  He was born on December 24, 1929, in Green Bay to the late Felix and Ursula (Ferron) Monfils.  Edwin served his country in the United States Army from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1952.  On July 17, 1954, he married Joan Hucek at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Green Bay.  She preceded him in death on July 28, 2013.  Edwin worked at Reliance Paint Company for many years prior to and after his military service.  In 1956, he started working at Northern Paper Mill which is now known as Georgia Pacific.  He retired in 1992, after 36 years of employment.

Ed and Joan were blessed with six children; Mark (Glenda) Monfils, GA;  Lois (Doug) Demers, NH; Thomas Monfils (deceased);  Yvonne (Bob) Mennen; Bobbi Jo (Kenn) Hensrud and Cal (Terri) Monfils, all of the Green Bay Area; grandchildren, Kimberly (Bryan) Blake, Alan (Brittany) Monfils, Ellen (Joe) Roy, Theresa (Frank), John Thomas, Nicholas Mennen, Patricia (Jason) Grimm, Kristophor Hensrud, Kylee (Brock) Treankler, Kodee Hensrud (fiancée, Asia Baran), Katelynn (Jason) Bercot, Lathum (Becca) Schleis and Abbie Schleis (friend, Alek Martin); great grandchildren, Kirsten, Andrew, Slade, Brantley, Mae, Grayson, Logan, Lyra, Brady, Brett, Bryce, Cody, Mason, Dalton, Reese, Cana, Callyn and Carter; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert (Nancy) Knutson, Dale (Laureen) Knutson, Gail (Larry) Cunningham; nieces and nephews, Mary Kay (Bruce) Steinfeldt, David (Jeanette) Klaus and Jane (Gerald) Prevost; and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Monfils; step-mothers, Anna and Mae; brother, Alvin (Gertrude) Monfils; sisters, Erma (Gerald) Klaus and Marilyn Monfils; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Irene and Herbert Knutson; his extended family, Durwood, Dale, Richard, Audrey, Carol and Eloise.

Visitation will be held at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., on Thursday, August 24, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service.  Funeral service 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Finian Zaucha, OFM officiating.  Full military honors to follow the service.  Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Algoma.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.prokowall.com.
