Evelyn C. (nee Heyrman) Moore, age 96, joined her husband, Harvey, in eternal rest on Thursday, April 14, 2022. Evelyn was born January 12, 1926, in Green Bay. She attended Hillcrest Elementary School, but as the oldest of 10 siblings she was needed at home to help out, so high school was never an option for her.
On July 1, 1944, she married Harvey P. Moore. The couple had 6 children, James, Gary, Joseph, Steven, Donald, and Angeline “Jill”. When the children were all school age, Evelyn went to work at Shopko. After she retired from Shopko, Evelyn volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul for a number of years.
While raising the family, Evelyn’s creativity and thriftiness always shone through. She made and sold many pheasant feathers hats from Harvey and the boys’ hunting expeditions. She also dabbled in ceramics. In her younger years, Evelyn fished a lot at the cottage at Chute Pond and snowmobiled with husband, Harvey. Evelyn was always an avid gardener with rainbows of blossoms each month of the growing season; her perennial gardens were admired by many. Evelyn was also an accomplished seamstress, crafter, and quilter. She did machine quilting and piecing, but many of her finest pieces are hand appliqued and hand quilted, truly works of art! The Moore home was always a testament to Evelyn’s skills with a needle and thread. She made numerous quilts for her children and her 12 grandchildren each have at least one quilt handmade by “grandma”. Evelyn also was a cracker jack at any card game and in later years enjoyed doing a wee bit of gambling.
Evelyn’s nine decades and experiences spanned from attending a one room country schoolhouse with an outdoor privy and growing up without a home phone or a car in the family for the first 10 years of childhood, to a first job as a single gal operating an elevator in a department store back when stores had elevator operators. She experienced and embraced all the technological advancements as they came along. She learned to use a computer and a computerized embroidery sewing machine and email as well as mastering a cell phone and texting, which not many 96-year-olds can claim!
Evelyn was predeceased by an infant son, Joseph; her husband, Harvey; her adult son, Donald; daughter-in-law, Sue; as well as siblings Clifford Heyrman, Audrey Gerrits, Mary Kleuskens, Marcella Van Durzen, Robert Heyrman, and Roger Heyrman.
Evelyn is survived by her children; James Moore and his sons, James and John; Gary (Orlane) Moore and children, Jesse, Jody, and Annette; Steve (Cindy) Moore and children, Ryan, Melissa, and Celeste; daughter-in-law, Janet Moore and children, Ben and Erin; Angeline “Jill” Moore and children, Heather and Courtney. Evelyn is also survived by her siblings, Betty VandenLangenberg, Richard Heyrman, and Margaret Champeau; and her sister-in-law, Mary Heyrman.
Evelyn boasts 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Further, Evelyn knew ALL of their birthdays. Her body may have worn out, but that mind never did!
