It is with great sadness to announce the passing of James Lee Starry, 83, of Rock Spring, Georgia. Jim passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 24, 2023, after his brave fight with cancer.
Jim was born to Edna Anna (Shuber) and John Henry Starry on October 25, 1939, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1957. Jim loved all sports and was an avid Packer fan. In his younger days he played quarterback for the Junior Packers, coached youth hockey, baseball, and played fast pitch softball for many years.
Later in life he loved to golf and travel. Jim worked for Interstate Brands for over 27 years before retiring in 2001. After retirement he worked part-time at the International Towing Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee for 16 years.
He is survived by his partner and best friend of 28 years, Carol Merle Hodges, his children: Tammy (Richard), Kevin, and Kurt (Teri), 6 grandchildren: Jacquie, Jessi (Brian), Nate, Chaunteau (Jake), Jamie, and Jimmy, 12 great-grandchildren, brothers Dick (Becky), Jack, and sister Pat (Denny), nieces and nephews: Stephanie, Rich, Corey, Scott, Todd, Debbie, Jeff, Jenny and their families – all of whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Joan.
Jim fought his initial diagnosis of cancer for 3 years, making the most of it by spending time with family and friends. He had an easy ability to make others smile and his great sense of humor will be missed. Jim’s family will be planning a Celebration of Life in Green Bay.
