Janet Van Pay

Janet Helen (Gezella) Van Pay, 83, passed away with her loving family at her side on Saturday, December 9, 2023.  She was born March 5, 1940, to John and Emily (Pieschek) Gezella.  She graduated from Luxemburg High School in 1958. On June 20, 1959, she married Cyril John Van Pay at SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church.  Janet waitressed for over 50 years at Eddie Whipps Dining Hall.  She enjoyed gardening, shopping, traveling, sitting by the campfire and fishing at the cottage at Newton Lake, playing cards, and the annual cousins party.  When her children were young, she was a 4-H Leader.  She enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers games and bowling in her women’s league.  Janet’s grandchildren’s birthdays were special celebrations.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Cy; her five children, Paul (Virginia) Van Pay, Lois (Donald) Dorner, William (Marlene) Van Pay, Sally (Michael) Vandermoss and Dale (Lana) Van Pay; eleven grandchildren, Dan (Rebecca) Van Pay, Rob Van Pay, Tim Dorner, Tanya (William) DeGrave, Kate (Dillan) Thomas, Jordon (Kris) Van Pay, Jason Van Pay, Maria (Dustyn) Blahnik, Mitchell (fiancée Erika Haberli) Vandermoss, Colby Van Pay and Eden Van Pay; 15 great-grandchildren, Aurora, Daphne, Parker, Blake, Wyatt, Courtney, Natalie, Ian, Mack, Krew, Harlow, Connor, Warren, Braxton and Jaxon; two brothers, John (Donna) and Tom (Diane) Gezella; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Cindy Gezella, Jim (Janet), Leroy (Bonnie), Jerry (Dorothy), Ken (JoAnn) and John (Judy) Van Pay, Linda (John) Soquet and Karen (Carl) Matz; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Emma Gezella; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Beatrice Van Pay; a brother, Ken Gezella; an infant sister, Darlene Gezella; a brother-in-law, Rich Van Pay and sister-in-law, Barbara Gezella.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St.  There will be a prayer service and sharing of memories at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.  Visitation will continue Friday from 9:30 to 10:50 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pilsen (E 860 WI-29).  The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church with Rev.
