Jean Rose Humlicek

Jean Rose Humlicek, 82, on the morning of December 30, 2022, made her final journey peacefully at home with her 3 daughters around her. She was born January 20, 1940, in Rice Lake, WI to Karl and Mae (Drinken) Zimmerman.

Jean was a graduate of Rice Lake High School, Class of 1958, and that same year she married Lyle Humlicek.  He preceded her in death on February 26, 2007. Jean worked for GTE Telephone Company as a long distance operator. While working there she took off a few years to be with her three daughters. She later worked at Tel-Sec Answering Service. In 1978, when 911 first came to Brown County, Jean was one of the nine original full-time call/dispatch operators for the entire county, retiring in 2001.

Jean is survived by her three daughters, Karean (Nick) Van Ess-Wagner, Newton, Lamella (Jeff) Meetz, Ashwaubenon, and Beth Thompson, Green Bay; her nine grandchildren, Keith (Sarah) Van Ess, Steve (Lindsey) Van Ess, Janil (Jeremy) Rueger, Peter (Kelsey) Van Ess, Shawn Meetz, Cory (Val) Meetz, Stacey Bossie, Tiffany Thompson, and Daniel Thompson; eight great-grandchildren, Gloria, Karllylea, Reggie, Sylas, Tieygan, Tucker, Hadley, and Novalee; brother, Earl (Deanne) Zimmerman; brother-in-law, Neil Sorenson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister, Marie Sorenson, a son-in-law, Jim Van Ess, and many other family members and dear friends.

Friends may call at First United Church of Christ, 509 S. Webster Avenue, on Saturday, January 14th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the church. On-line condolences may be given at www.prokowall.com.

We would like to thank the Team at Home Instead who have worked with mom for over 2 years and the special friend Janice that helped mom daily.  Also, thanks you to Unity Hospice that were there at the end.
