Joe Ehlers, 60, passed away Friday, December 15, 2023. He was born August 29, 1963, to Jerry and Janice (Grottke) Ehlers. He graduated from Preble High School and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a degree in Engineering. Joe’s life was about the things he loved: gardening, canning, fishing, hunting, building things, and photography. He had two very large gardens from which much produce was grown and eaten, given away, or canned. He was very proud of his gardens. Joe spent many mornings in the early summer fishing with his dad on Jerry’s pond. This resulted in some wonderful bluegills and bass to eat. He was very talented at carpentry and built a large bridge over a stream, a deer blind in two huge cedar trees, an ice fishing shack, extensive shelving, and an area to store firewood. Joe was skilled with a chainsaw and cut much firewood. He was fortunate to be able to travel to Germany and to Botswana in Southern Africa.
He is survived by his father Jerry Ehlers and his brothers Jeff (Barb Holschbach) and Jon (Kim Stauber). He was preceded in death by his mother Janice.
A private day of remembrance of Joe’s life will be held. Proko-Wall Funeral Home is assisting the family and online condolences may be expressed at www.prokowall.com.
Jeane Smits is serving the family.
