Joseph J. “Joe” Challe, 89, died Friday, June 30, 2023. He was born October 31, 1933, in Green Bay to the late George and Clara (Schober) Challe.
Joe was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1952. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and was stationed on the Island of Okinawa. On June 14, 1958, Joe married Carol Murphy at Old St. Joseph Catholic Church in De Pere. For several years Joe worked for the Green Bay Western Railroad, and later for Wisconsin Public Service until his retirement in 1995. Together Joe and Carol traveled south to The Villages in Florida for over twenty years. Joe enjoyed spending his time bowling, doing crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy and Packers games, card playing, and doing projects around the house.
Joe is survived by his wife, Carol; his sons, John J. (Laurie) Challe, Dennis (Marie) Challe, Patrick (Teresa) Challe, Paul Challe (fiancé Karen), Tom Challe (fiancé Nancy), and Christopher Challe (fiancé Anne); 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Mary Challe; his grandparents, Louis and Emma Schober; and a sister, Mary Lou Spang.
Friends may call at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 720 N. Baird Street, on Tuesday, July 11th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Jose Lopez officiating. Entombment will be in the Challe Family Mausoleum in Allouez Catholic Cemetery. On-line condolences may be given at www.prokowall.com.
