Joseph K. Smits

Joseph K. Smits, 67, died Sunday, September 19, 2021, following a brief struggle with cancer. He was born March 1, 1954, in Green Bay to Kenneth and Harriet (Maddy) Smits.

Joseph was a graduate of Green Bay East High School, Class of 1973. He married the love of his life, Rosemarie Warden, who he met in the 3rd Grade at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Grade School. They were married on September 21, 1974, at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church. Joseph worked for many years at Tectron Tube and at the Brown County Arena, retiring in 2012. He was a very talented mechanic who could repair any engine and also built many decks. Proud of his cooking, Joseph was known for his liver paste, pig roasts, and his deep fried turkeys. Being an avid hunter and fisherman, he and his family enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on Boulder Lake. Joseph was a big NASCAR fan and will be remembered for having friends everywhere he went.

Joseph is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rosemarie; his children, Tarra Smits (Paul Hammerberg), Denielle “Bug” Hintz; his grandchildren, Desaray, Katlynn, and Gabryle; a sister, Lori (Ron) Lessmiller; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Debbi.
