Joy D. Atchison, 78, died Wednesday, March 2, 2022, in Wausau. She was born April 27, 1943, in Los Angeles, California to Charles B. and Glady I. (Swingruber) Thomas.

In 1978, Joy married Lewis Atchison, Sr., and he preceded her in death in 1994. Together, they worked as a long haul driving team for over 40 years. When Lewis retired, they moved to Florida in 1987. Joy loved making crafts.  She made purses and wallets out of leather, did crocheting, macrame, diamond art, and enjoyed playing instruments. She will be remembered for being a great cook, and a genuine, carefree, honest person.

Joy is survived by her son, Lewis “Jay” Atchison; her two grandchildren, Kysha (Matt) Lansaw, Cassaundra (Cody) Duprey; 7 great-grandchildren, Montana, Adalyn, Sebastian, K’lynn, Jennifer, Elijah, and Ashlynn; nieces and nephews, Eliza, Roneet, James, Emmet, and Zack; her great-nephew, Ace; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis and her parents.

Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason Street, on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Memorial Service will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Deacon Bernard Terrien officiating. Burial will be in Florida Veterans Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. On-line condolences may be given at www.prokowall.com.
