Katherine Elizabeth Smith (Mitten) passed away in her home on the morning of December 25th, 2020.
She is predeceased by her mother, Barbara. Katie is survived by her daughters, Kayla and Nyrie; husband, Jason; father, Patrick; brothers, Michael (Cathi) and David (Mary;) granddaughter, Emma; and her nephew and niece, William and Annie. She has also left behind many other relatives and friends who loved her deeply.
Katie was born on March 5th, 1976. Adopted as an infant, Katie was eternally grateful for her birth family’s choice to place her with her adoptive parents, Pat and Barb, who loved her unconditionally. After graduating from high school, Katie enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where she worked in communications as a radio operator. Following her military service she continued on with her career, continuously working her way up through operations and management positions within several different industries.
At 20 years old, Katie gave birth to her twin daughters, Kayla and Nyrie. At 40, she became a grandmother to Emma. She found no greater joy than that of being both a mother and a grandmother.
A small family viewing was held at Proko-Wall Funeral Home & Crematorium shortly after her passing. While no immediate funeral or memorial services have been planned due to the global pandemic; Katie’s family is asking that, if you are so inclined, a luminaria be lit in her honor on Saturday January 23rd, 2021 at 6 PM CT. The family will notify loved ones in the future when service arrangements have been scheduled.
