Kenneth “Kenny” Joseph Baierl, passed away after a brief illness on December 19, 2023, at his home at the age of 63. Ken was born on June 22, 1960, to the late Clarence and Doris (Charlier) Baierl. He was the youngest of 8 children. Ken always said, “they tried till they got the best”. We can hear him say “now that’s funny.” He attended St Mary Grade School in Luxemburg WI and graduated with the class of ’79 from Luxemburg Casco High School.
On May 9, 1987, he married the love of his life and best friend, Diane La Grave, at St Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church in Green Bay. Together they had two beautiful daughters and the apple of his eyes, Brittney Leigh Baierl (Oscar Sanchez) and Kaley Marie Baierl.
Ken worked in manufacturing for many years including Shade Information Systems and Georgia Pacific West. A year ago, he got the “best job of his life” driving cars for Broadway Ford. He loved that job, the people and spoke of their ventures frequently.
Ken had kidney disease for many years and in 2014 needed a kidney transplant. His sister, Jeanne DeGroot, never wavered about giving him her kidney. They were almost a perfect match. He was proud to say she was always with him. The same year he received his transplant he got the second greatest gift of his life, the title of “Papa” when Lacey Marie Lee was welcomed into the family. Just 5 short months ago a grandson, Rafael Alexander Sanchez rocked his world, the boy he always wanted. They were his pride and joy!
Ken was not a man of many words but his hilarious laugh and quick wit made him so lovable. Needless to say, he always cracked himself up. Ken and Diane enjoyed their Ford Mustang GT and went on many rides with the NEW Stangs Club. Weekends would find them out cruising and enjoying the many different wineries of Wisconsin. They also just enjoyed a long-awaited land and sea trip to Alaska.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Diane and their two daughters, Brittney and Kaley; two grandchildren, Lacey and Rafael, plus two bonus grandchildren, Skye and Oliver Sanchez; two brothers, Wally (Rita) Baierl and Patrick (Christine) Baierl; two sisters, Jeanne (Jim) DeGroot and Bonnie (Mort) Willems; three sisters in law: Kathy Baierl; Shirley Baierl and Chris Stahl; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, plus three godchildren: Renee Miller, Trevor Jones and Addison DeGroot.
Ken was preceded in death by his father in law and mother in law, Alex and Betty (Bushmaker) La Grave; and three brothers: Clarence Baierl, James Baierl and William Baierl.
Ken’s wishes were to have a private memorial with immediate family. A Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to Ken’s family at www.prokowall.com.
We would like to thank the Brown County Sheriff’s Dept and Green Bay Metro Fire & Rescue for their prompt response and care. We’d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr Gabriel Mihailescu/Aurora for his care and determination. Lastly, a huge shout out to Ken’s nephew, Brian and sister, Jeanne, for being with him every step of the way and to the friends near and far that were there for Diane during the highs and lows!
“I love you my darling, my darling goodbye.”
