Margaret Schmidt, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on Wednesday October 13th after a long illness. Maggie was born to Ernest and Laura (Wohlgemuth) on September 28th, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa. Soon after, her family moved to Mellen, Wisconsin and later to Rice Lake. Maggie graduated from Wisconsin State College-Eau Claire and began her long teaching career in Manitowoc. She married her college beau, John Muehl, Jr. in 1958. They moved to Green Bay in 1961. When her oldest child started school, Maggie returned to work, teaching English at Preble High School. This was a bold move at the time, and she loved her years at PHS.  Following her divorce from Jack, she married Marvin Heraly in 1983. Marv died in 1990 just as their retirement home on Van Lanen Rd. was completed. Following Marv’s untimely death, Maggie volunteered with the Concerned Hearts Club. One year, while working at the Concerned Hearts golf outing, she reconnected with fellow Preble teacher Willard Schmidt. They were married in 2003 and enjoyed many happy years traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad. She was a long time member of Wequiock Presbyterian Church. Maggie was a voracious reader. She loved her family, her friends, and a cute pair of shoes. She also had  extensive canned food and shampoo collections along with a penchant for black pants. We will miss you, Mom!

Maggie is survived by her loving husband, Willard Schmidt. She is also survived by two daughters, Heidi Newman (Todd) and Wendi Sabinash, five grandchildren: Kelly Newman, Eric Newman, Mikaella Sabinash, Melissa Newman, and Jack Sabinash. Maggie will be missed by her sister-in-law, Kathleen Vesperman and her family. She is further survived by Marv’s family, Jeff Heraly (Glenna) and Judy Weed (Tom) and their family.  She is also survived by Wil’s family, Ann Birdsall (John), Gregg Schmidt (Jen), and Julie Sprangers (Mark) and their families.

Maggie was predeceased by her parents, Laura and Ernie Vesperman, her brother, Robert Vesperman, and her second husband, Marvin Heraly.

The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Anna’s House, Courtyard of Bellevue, and Unity Hospice for the care Maggie received during her illness.
