Marleen Schaut, 81, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at St. Vincent Hospital on January 25, 2022. She was born August 2, 1940, to George and Helen (Woulf) Race, and remained in her childhood home until the day she died. Marleen graduated from St. Joseph Academy with the Class of 1958. She enjoyed her many years as a teachers’ aide for those with special needs at West High School. Even after retirement, this was a cause near to her heart. Marleen was an avid reader and liked to complete word searches. She was a devoted grandmother who loved time spent with the grandkids.
She is survived by four children and their spouses, Kevin and Lisa Schaut, Keith Schaut, Kenny and Karen Schaut, Kim Schaut and her fiancé Richard Maus; 11 grandchildren, Dominic, Taylor, Andrew, Annelise, Nicholas, Natalie, Nicole, Sean-Michael (Kristine), Tyler, Sullivan, and Trinity; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane (Kelly) Storm and two brothers, Roger (Gretchen) Race and Dennis (Kathy) Race; nieces and nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Carol Rybicki.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 720 N. Baird St. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Rev.
