Mary Jane Renier, 84, Green Bay resident, died Thursday, July 1, 2023, at a local hospital. She was born May 17, 1939, in Menominee, Michigan to the late Roy and Helen (Deau) Behrendt. Mary Jane attended St. Joseph Academy graduating with the class of 1957.

Mary Jane led her life with a kind, caring, and compassionate heart. As a nursing assistant at St. Vincent Hospital after high school, she lived by her faith and worked to provide comfort to those patients in her care. It was not long before she met and fell in love with Jim Renier. They married on October 21, 1961, at Annunciation Catholic Church. Together they soon started a family that would become the center of their lives. Mary Jane gave her heart in full as a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. Jim preceded her in death on October 25, 2020. She was graced with the artistic gene and loved to decorate her home, especially at holidays…every single holiday! She had a playful spirit and lifelong love of nature, especially dogs, cats, fish, birds, and trees. Summers were spent camping, first with her parents at Sandstone Campground in Crivitz, Wisconsin and later the family would camp at Tranquil Timbers (formerly Quietwoods Campground) in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.

Many lifelong friendships were made wherever she went, from the many years camping, her neighbors on Fiesta Lane, as well as her time as a waitress at Kroll’s East. She was given nicknames by the many people that loved her. A few close friends fondly called her Shorty, and even some of her grandchildren. However, the titles of Nana, Gigi, and Grandma, brought her the most joy. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her later years, Mary Jane never left the house without her hair, makeup, and salon nails done. She wore coordinating outfits often embellished with sequins or beads, as well as earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings to match. For this she was given the nicknames of “Glitter” by some of the nurses and “Sparkles” by the residents at the assisted living facility where she lived.

Mary Jane’s love was endless and generous. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

Mary Jane is survived by four children: Michelle (Lee) Wacek; Denise (Keith) Socha; Mike (Becky) Renier and Thomas Renier, all of Green Bay; eight grandchildren: Nicole (Jacob) Borley; Sarah Anne Socha; Tricia (Kyle) Tauschek; Christopher (Melissa) Wacek; Danielle Wacek (Ramone); Tyler Renier; Sydney Renier (Brian) and Zachary Renier (Natalie); four great grandchildren, Aurora and Grayson Borley and Grace and James Wacek; brother-in-law, Marlin Lewis; sister-in-law, Jan Spielbauer; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; sister, Patricia Lewis; brother-in-law, Ron Spielbauer and sister-in-law, Carol (Ervin) Lindsley.
