MaryAnn (Mertens) De Bruin

MaryAnn Marian (Mertens) De Bruin, 86, Green Bay, WI, passed away peacefully after a short illness and answered the call of her Lord on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.  She was born on January 17, 1936, in Sugarbush to the late Michael and Laura (DeGrand) Mertens. MaryAnn married the love of her life, Donald F. De Bruin, on August 17, 1955, at St. Huberts Church, Sugarbush. They were blessed with five wonderful children. MaryAnn was a homemaker who managed the family hobby farm and relished in her vegetable garden and tending her flower gardens. Time with family and friends was what MaryAnn enjoyed most. Never a friend did she not make which usually was accompanied by some of her delicious banana bread or cookies. She enjoyed her time at the casinos playing bingo and video slots. She enjoyed helping others when they joined in with her bingo fun. When at home, MaryAnn loved video chatting with her grandkids and baking with them when they visited. 

MaryAnn will be sadly missed by her children, Galen De Bruin, Luxemburg, Gail (Richard) Campbell, Green Bay, Ervin (Sherry) De Bruin, Rhinelander, Karen (Dan) Carlson, Green Bay and Lee (Rebecca) De Bruin, Green Bay.  Also surviving are her grandchildren: Timothy and Donald (Lisa) De Bruin, Michelle (JR) Lacy, Michael (Jessica) DeBruin, Josh (Heather) DeBruin, Tricia De Bruin, Cody De Bruin, Jordan (Justin) Gensler, Ali (Will) Carlson, Joe (Kaylee) Carlson, Blake De Bruin, Regina De Bruin. Step Grandchildren, Wendy (Chris) Peters, Kris (Kevin) Kuchta, Kelly Frazier, Stacie (Jeff) DePas, Steve (Mary) Campbell, Rick Campbell, Joshua (Meggie) Lundberg, Timothy and Alisha Lundberg; 5 great grandchildren, Alex & Grant Spitzer, Lila De Bruin, Grant and IvyAnn DeBruin; 16 step great grandchildren, Jaxson, Abel, and Lily Lundberg, Alyssa, Alex, Olivia Peters, Jared and Katelyn Kuchta, Hannah Frazier, Alex, Karrina, and Cayden DePas, Brianna, Cassie, Hunter and Connor Campbell and one step great great grandchild, Luelle Peters.

MaryAnn is also survived by 5 sisters: Rita LeGrave, Marcella Kaye, Rosella (Ron) Fayas and Diane Guhl; 2 brothers, Marvin (Charlotte) Mertens, Gene (Debbie) Mertens. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews with one very special niece, Patti Roberts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Don on December 2, 1997; brothers and sisters: Richard (Evelyn) Mertens, Ervin Mertens, LaVerne (Quentin) Roberts, Delores (Mervin) LaCrosse, in-laws, Wallace LeGrave, Richard Kaye.

A public visitation will be held at St. Phillips Catholic Church, 312 Victoria St., Green Bay, on Monday, March 7, 2022, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass.  Catholic Funeral Mass will begin at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. William Hoffman and Rev. Michael Ingold concelebrating. MaryAnn will take final rest at The Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Online condolences may be expressed at www.prokowall.com.

MaryAnn’s family extends their most sincere thanks to the staff at St. Vincent’s ICU and 7th floor and Unity Hospice for their care and compassion to her and her family during her short illness
