Matthew Lester Wolk, 64, died Friday, September 22, 2023, at his home. He was born October 11, 1958, in Woodruff, WI to William “Bill” and Marie (Schlink) Wolk.

Matthew was a graduate of Green Bay East High School, Class of 1976. He began his career in sales with Imperial and eventually landed at the Green Bay Press-Gazette (Gannett). Through hard work and professionalism Matthew was able to rise to the position of General Manager of the Marshfield and Wisconsin Rapids Gannett papers. Matthew went to school at UW Green Bay. He later furthered his education at NWTC and became a licensed EMT at 62 years old. He was working as an EMT at the time of his death. He believed in giving back and after a health scare when he was younger his volunteer passion became realized at St. Vincent hospital. He was president of the Volunteer Board of Directors for both St. Vincent Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital. While working a demanding full-time job Matthew also tended bars at The Wellington, Woodside, and The Candlestick. He brought professional and a diligent work ethic to his bartending which made him Green Bay’s best and fastest bartender. Matthew spent his free time with family. Katherine, his daughter and favorite human, something he always told her, had many common interests such as cooking, going to the theater and antiquing.

Matthew is survived by his daughter, Katherine; his sisters, Rose Jacobs, Amanda (Mark) Vesely, and Tina (Mark) Van Horn; nieces and nephews, Jason, Jordan, Collin, Ethan, Emerson, and Tony; great-nieces and great-nephew, Peyton, Randi, and Kail; and aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Mark Jacobs.
