Lorraine Gersek

Lorraine Gersek, 102 years old, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019 in Florida.  She was born, an identical twin (Loretta), in De Pere on May 18, 1917, to the late Antone and Anna (Hermes) VanLanen.  On Sept. 14, 1940, Lorraine married Edmund S. Gersek Sr.  They were married for 39 years and had four children before Edmund Sr. preceded her in death in 1980.  She was in the construction business with her husband since 1945 and continued to be an active owner after his death.  She received the “Wisconsin Governor’s Trailblazer Award for Women in Business” in 2012.  Lorraine was also an excellent homemaker, known for her chicken booyah.  She was very active with St. Bernard Catholic Church and their Altar and Rosary Society before moving to Florida.  Lorraine was a passionate Packers fan and enjoyed watching college football as well.  She also loved to travel and go square dancing with Ed in her earlier years and playing golf and cards with her family and friends.

Lorraine will be deeply missed by her daughters, Gail Wing, Kathy (Roger) Bodkin, Diane (Tom) Bisick; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; 2 brothers; a sister; a former daughter-in-law, Barbara (Graan) Gersek and many other family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Lorraine is preceded in death by her son, Edmund Gersek Jr.; son-in-law, Larry Wing; grandson, Matthew Gersek; 10 siblings; and many other in-laws and relatives.

Visitation will be at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, 2019, followed by a brief prayer service.  Visitation will continue at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside Dr., from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, with Rev. Robert Rhyner officiating the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m.  Entombment will be in Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
