Richard E. Whitmire, 83, Bellevue, passed away on Tuesday morning, June 11, 2019. He was born on February 7, 1936 in Milwaukee to the late Richard and Lorraine (Kornetzky) Whitmire. Richard served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1952 to 1956 and went on to serve active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1956 until his retirement in 1975. On May 26, 1962, he married Darlene Beth at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked for the city of Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage for many years until his retirement. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene; his sons, Michael and Marshall; grandchildren, Abbey (Adam) Nelson, Trevor Whitmire and Ethan Whitmire; great grandchildren, Audrey Nelson and Adam Nelson, Jr., and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Ann (Ken) Dewitt; grandson, Tyler Whitmire; and niece, Diane Dewitt.
Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., on Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service. Memorial service 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Full military honors will follow. Online condolences may be expressed at www.prokowall.com.
