Robert C. “Bob” Kaster

Robert C. “Bob” Kaster, 89, passed away peacefully Monday, August 15, 2022, with his family at his side. He was born July 29, 1933, on the family farm in De Pere to Norbert and Anna (Schienpflug) Kaster.

Bob was a graduate of De Pere High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served stateside at Camp Pendleton in San Diego. During that time, he was part of the military’s early nuclear program and took part in Operation Teapot. After his time in the Marines, he worked for Charmin (later Procter and Gamble) and operated paper machines becoming lead paper machine tender. He also partnered with his brother on the Kaster family farm in Ledgeview that was started by his grandfather. On September 5, 1959, he married Janet Peters at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay Settlement. She preceded him in death on January 30, 2022. Bob was a “jack-of-all-trades”, had a gift for improvising, was skilled in construction, and was always generous with his time and talents. He loved watching sports and always rooted for the underdog. An avid Packers fan, Bob attended games and cheered the Packers to victory at the Ice Bowl. He loved hunting, playing cards at family gatherings, and taking trips with Janet, family, and friends. Bob will be remembered as a self-made man, an eternal optimist with an infectious smile, and a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Bob is survived by his children, Jeff Kaster, Lisa Samorske (special friend Steve), and Doug (Jen) Kaster; his grandchildren, Nick Samorske, Nate Samorske (special friend Emily), Erin (Bobby) Georgia, Colin Kaster, and Marin Kaster; his brother, Elroy (Elaine) Kaster; brothers-in-law, Larry (Claire) Peters, John Koch; sisters-in-law, Adele Schneider, Dory Peters, Jane Kaster (special friend Don), many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; his parents; nephews, Dale Herman and David Herr; sisters, Valeria (Richard) Boulanger and Adele (Al) Herr; brother, Jerome Kaster; sisters-in-law, Theresa (Warren) Pensis, Mary (Fran) Herman, and Joanne Koch; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norbert and Catherine (Berken) Peters; and extended family member Charles “Chuck” Bouche.

Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason Street, on Tuesday, August 23rd from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.  A Parish Wake will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Glenmore, 5840 Big Apple Road, De Pere, on Wednesday, August 24th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Richard Klingeisen officiating. Military Honors to follow. Entombment will be in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. On-line condolences may be given at www.prokowall.com. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Bob’s name.

Bob’s family extends a special word of thanks to the staff of Angels Touch Assisted Living, and the caring and concerned relatives and neighbors who were there to the lend a helping hand.
