Rodney C. Stary, 87, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. Rod was born on August 24, 1934, to Joseph and Hannah (Rasmussen) Stary in Green Bay. Rod graduated from Central Catholic High School. During his senior year Rod met the love of his life, Lois Stiles. Rod and Lois were married on September 20, 1952, one month after Rodney’s 18th birthday. Four children later and their family was complete.
Rod worked at LeCaptaine’s Family grocery store then finished his career at Industrial Towel and Uniform, a job he loved. At retirement, Rod and Lois wanted to get away from Wisconsin’s cold weather so they moved to Las Vegas where they had the time of their lives for 14 years. They moved back to Green Bay in 2015 to be closer to family.
Rod was an avid outdoorsman, especially fishing and hunting with his kids. He caught hundreds of walleye or whatever was biting. A highlight was catching a 50” musky that landed Rod an interview on WBAY’s sports program. He passed his fishing knowledge to his kids as they are all excellent fisherwomen and men. The annual fishing trips to Lake Erie with his two sons were always fun. He also enjoyed taking his two daughters duck hunting, although they seldom came home with any ducks. Rod and Lois went camping for most of their lives, starting in a tent with the kids and ended with a permanent site in Arbor Vitae.
Rod was an avid Packer fan, he really was at the Ice Bowl. Rod and Lois purchased season tickets when Lambeau Field opened. They went to almost every game for the next 40+ years. He also enjoyed bowling, golf and growing his own limes in Las Vegas for a good gin and tonic.
Rodney is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lois; children, Karen (Jeff) Smits, Susan Skogg, Steve (Lori) Stary and Bryan (Lucy) Stary; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Dale (Donna) Stary of Las Vegas; and sister-in-law, Jean McArdle.
He was preceded in death by an infant great-grandchild, Hamilton Nick; his parents; parents-in-law, Curtis and Elanor Stiles; brothers, Quentin (Laura) Stary, Ronald (Fern) Stary; in-laws, Steven McArdle, Curtis Stiles and Neil Stiles.
