Sandra Jean “Sandy” Starkey
Sandra Jean “Sandy” Starkey, 80, died Saturday, August 6, 2022. She was born July 11, 1942, in Lowell, Michigan to Sulo Jorman and Helga Miriam (Kemppianen) Hulkonen.
Sandy was a graduate of Michigan State University where she received her BA in Education, as well as doing a year of postgraduate studies. She worked as a Primary School Teacher (Grades 5 and 6) teaching in Michigan, California, and Wisconsin, and was a Preschool Teacher in Wisconsin. On September 10, 1966, she married, Ronald Harry Starkey in East Lansing, Michigan. Sandy was an avid recreation participant. She enjoyed canoe camping, hiking, skiing, snow shoeing, wilderness travel such as canoeing and backpacking. Sandy was an avid gardener and “vacuum cleaner enthusiast”, all the while being a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. She maintained a close relationship with her family, particularly her three sisters.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Ronald; her son, Glenn (Joan) Starkey, Rocklin, CA; her grandchild, Holden Starkey, Rocklin, CA; her three sisters, Judy Reese, Margie (Bill) Bergstrom, and Mary (John) Jeffery; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
