Lyle Basten

Lyle L. “Spike” Basten, 74, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2020, at home with his family at his side.  Lyle was born in Luxemburg on Aug. 21, 1945, to the late Lyle J. and Joyce (DePas) Basten.  He was a graduate of Preble High School class of ’63.  Later that year in August, Lyle enlisted with the U.S. Army serving until Aug. of 1966.  He was also a proud member of the VFW Post 9677.  Lyle was employed with Green Bay Packaging from 1968 to 2008.  On Sept. 14, 1968, Lyle married Karen Mellen.  Lyle was proud to be celebrating 34 years of sobriety.  He enjoyed spending time hunting, bowling, fishing and trips up north.  Lyle’s sons and grandchildren were his pride and joy.  He never missed an event.

Lyle will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Karen; 4 sons, Rob (Penny) Basten, and their children, Greta and Genelle Basten; Randy Basten, and his daughter, Kailey Basten (special friend Braden) ; Ryan (Leslie) Basten, and their children, Austen and Lindsey Basten; Rich (Jennifer) Basten, and their children, Cody (Casey) and Mira Basten; his brother, Glenn (LaVerne) Basten; 3 sisters-in-law, Mary Wilinski, Sandy (Ray) VanDenPlas and Pat (Tony) Johanek; and many other family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Lyle is preceded in death by 2 infant grandsons, Presley and RJ Basten; his parents-in-law, Gervase and Marcy Mellen; and a brother-in-law, Arthur Kenealy.

Visitation will be at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, with the Funeral Service at 7:00 p.m., full military honors to follow.  Burial will be in Nicolet Memorial Gardens.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.Prokowall.com.
