La Verne Barrett
La Verne Mary (Rabas) Barrett, 82, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at home surrounded by family. She was born in Pilsen, WI, on September 17, 1938, to the late Joseph and Lena Rabas. On October 3, 1956, she married the love of her life Donald “Red” E. Barrett at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pilsen. They enjoyed bowling or dancing a good waltz or polka together. They moved to the city and started a family of their own. La Verne and Don were active members of St. Bernard Catholic Parish. La Verne volunteered many hours of her time to assist others. She worked 35 years at St. Vincent Hospital as Hospital Unit Coordinator spending much of her time on the 4th and 9th floors. La Verne loved spending her time with her grandchildren and they learned so many things. She enjoyed knitting, strawberry picking, cooking, and a frosty beer at night but especially camping with her husband Don and family throughout their retirement. La Verne will always be remembered for her strong faith, smile, and caring soul.
La Verne will be sadly missed by her three children, Dan (Jodi) Barrett, Dawn (Robert) Sanders, and Mike Barrett; five grandchildren, Ashley, and Jason Holz, McKenzie Barrett, Jacob and Hunter Sanders; great-grandchild, Camryn Becker; her siblings, Alvin Rabas, Joyce Cherney, and Norbert (Darlene) Rabas; brother-in-law, Dick Rollo and sister-in-law, Marilyn Barrett. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Donald “Red” Barrett, her sister, Anna Mae Rollo; brothers-in-law, David Barrett, Darrell Barrett, and sister-in-law, Virgil Rabas.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside Dr., from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark VanderSteeg officiating. Entombment will be at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Face masks and social distancing are encouraged while attending services.
