Valerie Long, 63, died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 26, 2022. She was born April 6, 1959, in Sturgeon Bay to Donald and Ruby (Jarman) Long.
Valerie was a graduate of Ashwaubenon High School, Class of 1977. After graduation, she moved to Milwaukee. In 1982, she returned to Green Bay, was married on September 3, 1983, and began raising a family. As her children grew, she worked at a daycare and then at Christa McAuliffe Elementary School to be close to them. After Valerie’s kids were grown, she enjoyed a 15-year career at Walmart in Green Bay and De Pere.
Valerie will be remembered as a kind and compassionate soul who loved being of service to others. She enjoyed being a homemaker and loved caring for her mother, Ruby. She cherished spending time with her family, reading, bird watching, cooking, and watching television. Valerie had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her dogs, “Max” and “Tucker,” and her cats, “Mani,” “Murphy,” and “Molly.”
Valerie is survived by her children, Eric Rusch and Nicole (John) Chitwood; her brothers, Donald (Mary Ellen) Long, Jon (Mary) Long, and Jason (Dina) Long; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may call at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Drive, on Tuesday, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Tom Reynebeau officiating. Online condolences may be given at www.prokowall.com.
