Wayne E. Johnson

Wayne E. Johnson, 89, died Friday evening, September 18, 2020, after a battle with dementia and COPD.  He was born August 31, 1931, in Green Bay to the late Elmer and Irene (VanderLeest) Johnson.  Wayne graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1950.  On December 27, 1951, he married Jacqueline “Jackie” (Gilsoul) Johnson at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral.  Jackie preceded Wayne in death on January 21, 2011. Wayne began working as a millwright for American Can following the company into the Northern years, before retiring from James River.  He served his country in the U.S. Navy. In his later years, he enjoyed going for breakfast at Nicolet, having dinner at Ziggy’s and playing Farmville on his computer.

He is survived by two sons, Michael (special friend, Sue Charney) and Mark Johnson; two grandsons, Matthew (special friend, Jess Hernandez) Johnson and Brett (Kara) Johnson; three great-grandchildren, Emilee, Michael and Jack; Sue’s children, David Kaufman, Christina (Dave) Tapia, Beau (Stephanie) Charney, Aaron Charney and Davia Charney; their children, Lyric, Leighana “Charlie”, Gavin, Wyatt, Ben, Joe, Salena, Dillon, Zackary and Gianni; his special dog Molly; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St.   Funeral Services will be held at noon Saturday at the funeral home with Sr. Helen Keyzer officiating.  Masks are required for entrance to the visitation and social distancing will be practiced.  Entombment will be in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.prokowall.com
