Carol Stella Challe, 86, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024.   She was born on May 16, 1937, in Freedom, WI to the late Mary (Rentmeester) and Archie Murphy.  Carol graduated from Nicolet High School in 1955. She met her future husband on a blind date and on June 14, 1958, Carol Murphy married Joseph Challe at Old St. Joseph Catholic Church in De Pere. They were married for 65 years.  Joe preceded her in death on June 30, 2023.  Together they raised six boys. Their beloved daughter, Catherine Mary passed away in infancy.

Carol was a homemaker and always put her family first.  She was very proud of her six sons. She enjoyed playing cards and games with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.  Carol had a quick wit and was fun to be around.  She had a special love for her nieces and nephews and also enjoyed getting together with her cousins for lunch. Together Joe and Carol traveled to The Villages in Florida for over 20 years.  She enjoyed golf, cards, shopping and socializing with friends.  Carol generously spent many hours crocheting countless hats for the Armed Services and for hospital nurseries.

Carol is survived by her sons, John J. (Laurie) Challe, Dennis (Marie) Challe, Patrick (Teresa) Challe, Paul Challe (fiancé, Karen), Tom (Nancy) Challe and Christopher Challe (fiancé, Anne); 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 720 N. Baird St., from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.  Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church with Rev. The family is so grateful to Michelle, an amazing caregiver, who loved our mother and cared for her as if she was her own.  Also, many thanks to the staff of Tender Hearts Assisted Living.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Parish.
