Irma Janczakowski, 87, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at home with her family at her side.

Irma was born on December 19, 1933, in San Germán, Puerto Rico. She graduated from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez with a bachelor’s degree in science. She worked in the neuropathology lab at LSU before becoming a stay-at-home mother. On April 1, 1965, she was united in marriage to Joe Janczakowski in New Orleans. Irma was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She especially loved her home island of Puerto Rico.

She will be sadly missed by her husband Joe; sons, John (Susan) Janczakowski and their children, Michael and Janie; and Mark (Tamiko) Janczakowski and their children, Justin (Abbey), Jason and Jaclyn; brother, Israel (Vydia) Almodóvar; sister, Daisy (Willie) Nazario de Leon. Irma will be further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Irma was preceded in death by her parents, Juan Bautista and Celia Almodóvar; sister, Annie Dieppa; brother, Ismael Almodóvar; and daughter, Sandra Janczakowski.

Visitation will be at St. John the Baptist Parish, 2597 Glendale Ave. on Wednesday, June 2, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Jim Lucas officiating.
