Joseph J. Stangel, 68, Green Bay resident, died Sunday, April 7, 2024, in a local hospital. He was born September 13, 1955, in Green Bay to the late Wallace and Gertrude (Franken) Stangel. Joe was a graduate of Abbot Pennings High School in 1973. He served in the US Marine Corps and was happily married to Laurie Zettle for 30 years.
Joe was employed as a security guard at the Shopko Stores until his retirement. He had an obsession for playing Chess and loved music, The Beatles being one of his favorite groups.
He is survived by his daughter, Emma Stangel and her fiancé Joel Rodriguez, Green Bay and his son, Tyler Baenen, Denmark; two granddaughters, Elissa and Annalise; two sisters, Therese Trost, Green Bay and Bernadette Connelly-Hock, Green Bay and brother-in-law, Patrick Gallagher.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Margie Goeben-Ostry and Mary Gallagher and a brother-in-law, Donald Trost.
Friends may call at St Matthew Catholic Church, 130 St. Matthew St. on Tuesday, April 16, from 10:00-11:00 am. Memorial Mass 11:00 am Tuesday at the church with Rev. Bob Kabat officiating.
