Judith Ann “Judy” Berg, 80, died Sunday, May 14, 2023. She was born at home on January 6, 1943, in Sugarbush to the late Elmer and Mabel (Delveaux) VanEss.

Judy was a graduate of Luxemburg High School, Class of 1961, and later attended St. Norbert College. On November 26, 1966, during opening week of deer season, Judy married Edouard J. LaPlant at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church in Sugarbush. He preceded her in death in 1996. She later married John H. Berg on January 26, 2002, at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. Judy was a creative person and a good artist who enjoyed watercolor painting, making crafts with her grandkids, quilting, sewing and making dresses. Judy loved to spend time traveling, baking, exercising, eating right, visiting her grandkids, and dancing with John. She was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Parish where she volunteered her time and served as a Eucharist Minister.

Judy is survived by her husband, John; her children, Michael (Linda) LaPlant, Narice (Dave) Plumb, Dan (Lori) LaPlant, and Kate LaPlant (Sean Eastman); her grandchildren, Stephanie (Jayson) Maxwell, Jennifer (Mike) Frietas, Christine (Dan) Gerson, Becca LaPlant, Sara Plumb, Erin Plumb, Sawyer LaPlant, Eli LaPlant, Michael LaPlant, John Eastman, and Jimmy Eastman; her great-grandchildren, Ian, MyKayla, Nathan, Faith, Derrick, Autumn, (and one on the way); her brothers, Neal VanEss, Joe (Clara) VanEss, Jerry (Chris) VanEss, Alan VanEss, and Randy (Betty) VanEss; her cherished sister, Jeanette (Pete) Sink; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Barlament, and Donna (Dave) Tenor; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edouard J. LaPlant; her parents; father-in- law and mother-in-law, James and Cecilia (Haevers) LaPlant; and sisters-in-law, Sue (John) Hoppock and Lynn LaPlant, and brother-in-law, Bill Barlament.

Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason Street, on Thursday, May 25th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Parish Wake will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friends may also call at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 312 Victoria Street, on Friday the 26th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Juan Zarate officiating. Burial will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery. On-line condolences may be given at www.prokowall.com.
