Marvin Schneider
Marvin J. Schneider, 84, of Hemet, CA, formerly of Green Bay, joined the angels in heaven on September 30, 2020, after a 17-month battle with bile duct/liver and bone cancer. He endured chemotherapy and radiation with dignity and without complaint. Marv was a quiet, devout Christian, whose love of God, family and country were paramount in his life. All who knew Marv loved his generous, patient ways and clever wit.
Marv is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Sharon (Huff) Schneider; sons: Mark (Julie) Schneider, Peoria, IL; Todd (Jane) Schneider, Macon, GA; daughter: Jodi (David Macias) Schneider, Indio, CA; grandchildren: Nicole (Collin) Hayse, Peoria, IL; Jacob (Michelle Zobrist) Schneider, Peoria, IL; Eric Schneider, Macon, GA; Evan Schneider, Macon, GA; Marvin Macias, Indio, CA, great grandson: Rory Schneider, Peoria, IL; sister, Grace (Bob) Roberts, Green Bay.
He is further survived by Sharon’s siblings: Merle (Carol) Huff; Dave (Sharon) Huff; Darrell Huff; Bonnie (Gary) Campbell; Barb (Dave) Bloomer; Terri (Brian) Bartmann; Brian (Terry) Huff.
Marv was born on December 19, 1935, in Luxemburg, WI, to the late Alvin and Adeline Schneider. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Vera and (Jerry) Smet, DePere; brother, Bob and (Virginia) Schneider, Milwaukee; infant brother, Gary Schneider; parents-in-law, Gordon and Arleen Huff; sister-in-law, Dee (Huff) Pasterski; brother-in-law, Jerry Huff, all of Green Bay.
After the sudden, unexpected death of his father-in-law at a young age, Marv stepped in as a father figure and mentor to assist in raising Sharon’s 4 youngest siblings. His unique sense of humor and patience served him and them well during those years.
Marv was a graduate of Green Bay West High School and was also a U.S. Navy veteran. He served two years active duty aboard the USS Forrestal from 1955-1957, followed by 20 years in the Naval Reserve. After completion of his active naval duty, he attended NWTI on the GI bill, graduating at the top of his class with a degree in Mechanical Design. He was employed for 20 years at FMC Corp. as a mechanical design engineer until moving to California where he worked as an independent consultant.
After retirement, Marv had more time to indulge his “farmer-at-heart” inclinations, spending more time gardening, giving excess produce to many friends and neighbors. Marv was a founding member of Christ the Vine Lutheran Church in Temecula, CA, where he served for many years as its treasurer and designed the chancel furniture, including the altar, lectern and pulpit. He was also a member of his community’s Emergency Preparedness Committee, CERT-trained, assisting his neighbors with disaster preparations.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a celebration of Marv’s life will be held at his church at a future date and will be broadcast on YouTube.
In keeping with Marv’s generous nature, he has donated his body for anatomic research to Loma Linda University Medical School’s “Bodies for Science” Program. After completion of these studies, his cremains will be inurned at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA, with full military honors.
