Maynard Destree

Maynard D. Destree, 83, Green Bay resident, passed away Monday August 17, 2020, from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. He was born May 11, 1937, in Sturgeon Bay to the late Donah and Mabel (Roble) Destree. Growing up in the Gardener area, he helped his father in the commercial fishing business. Maynard attended Brussels High School graduating in May of 1955. Maynard joined the Army National Guard Reserves while a junior in high school. He was activated into active duty during the Berlin Crisis in the Wis 32nd Red Arrow Division serving in Fort Lewis, Washington. He was honorably discharged in January of 1963.

 Maynard married the former Janet DeKeyser on September 21, 1957, at St. Mary of the Snows Catholic Church in Namur celebrating 63 years of marriage this year. He was employed by Northern Paper Mill, now Georgia Pacific East, for 39 years retiring in May of 1995. Maynard had a strong faith and was a longtime member of SS Peter and Paul Parish serving as an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post 186 in Poland. Maynard attended Green Bay Packer games as a season ticket holder for many years at Lambeau Field, including attending the Ice Bowl. He enjoyed fishing and never missed an opportunity to play a game of cards.

 He is survived by his wife Janet and their four children: David (Lori) Destree; Dawn DeBauche; Dale Destree and special friend Kaari and Dean (Michelle) Destree, all of Green Bay; five grandchildren: Mathew (Katie) Destree; Erin (Chris) Rottier; Jordan Collins; Ryan and Shailey Destree; five great grandchildren: Hazel Destree, Graham and Emeric Rottier, Elevi Destree and Amarion Lofton; his brother-in-law, Hubert Denil, Manitowoc as well as nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by an infant son, Dean Joseph; son-in-law, Alan DeBauche; daughter-in-law, Laura Destree; sister, Della Denil; nephew, Gary Denil and his in-laws, Clarence and Dora DeKeyser.

 Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. from 4:00-8:00 pm Friday, August 28. PLAV memorial service 6:50 pm Friday, parish wake service, 7:00 pm Friday. Visitation will continue on Saturday after 8:30 am at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 720 N. Baird St. until time of Mass. Memorial Mass 9:30 am Saturday at the church with Rev.
