Nick Wertel, 89, town of Eaton, passed away on Friday July 16, 2021. He was born on January 25, 1932 in the town of Eaton to the late Vincent and Stella (Pasterski) Wertel. In his younger years, he would help his Dad with different plastering and handyman jobs. After his father’s death, he and his brother, Donny took care of the family farm. Nick, in addition to his farming responsibilities, worked at Kewaunee Fabrication for a period of time. He was a former Packers season ticket holder and attended the Ice Bowl in 1967. Nick was a talented woodworker and used those talents to remodel the family farmhouse. He was a hardworking man and always put his family first. Nick enjoyed the good old days of farming with his family. In his later years, Nick worked at Bridge Between Retreat Center in maintenance and gardening.
He is survived by his nephews and nieces, Vince Wertel, John (Jane) Wertel, Jerry (Wendy) Wertel, Mary Wertel, Theresa (Damian) Slavek, Crystal (Jason) Schneider and Joe (Jennie) Wertel, Jr.; his great-nieces and great-nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph and Donny Wertel, sister-in-law, Darlene Wertel.
Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., on Saturday, July 24, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Funeral service 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Kathie Tilot officiating. Burial will take place at SS. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery.
